Islam and democratic reform (E)
The Dutch think tank 'Wetenschappelijke Raad voor het Regeringsbeleid' has published a number of studies and policy recommendations on islam, sharia, and democratic reform.
The studies have caused considerable controversy over how to deal with radical islam and why to support moderate islamist parties in the Middle East. The WRR positions on these matters differ greatly from renowned critical voices within the Dutch society such as Hirsi Ali, Afshin Elian and Geert Wilders.
The English language monograph by Nasr Abu Zayd on the reformation of islamic thought is of special intrest, given the man's background as a religious dissident and political refugee from Egypt.
